Paperwork, Puppy Packs, Animal Belongings and Baggage
What can I send with my Pets?
Please Note that there may be specific exclusions made by drivers in locations that are currently listed as Covid Hotspots or Stay at Home areas. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but where it is necessary to take these measures it is done to protect the health of our staff or individuals from other regions, that may subsequently come into contact with your belongings.
We are happy to accept paperwork, personal items and puppy packs, up to the size of a common shopping bag, from our clients to travel with their Pets. However we do have space limitations and because we are often asked to take additional baggage we have set limitations and extra charges regarding the size of the items sent to allow us to continue to do so. If you feel you will need to send more than one shopping bag sized parcel per booking please check the details below.

Breeder Puppy Packs
Many Breeders like to send Puppy Packs with their Puppies to their clients as a thank you. These Packs typically may include food samples, blankets, toys, change of ownership forms, Vaccination certificates, brochures and information regarding the care of the puppy. This is an important part of the interaction between Breeders and their clients and therefore we do not wish to discourage this practice but because we often receive Puppy Packs that are excessively large and we have now set a maximum size limit and will charge for oversized packs.
Puppy Packs larger than the sizes stated below may still be able to be sent by arrangement at the time of booking, but this will be done at an additional cost. Where necessary we may have to reduce the number of animals booked on the service to be able to fit in such excess baggage.
The Maximum acceptable Puppy Pack size is 20 x 30 x 35cm high, 4kg Max
This size includes all of the common shopping bag sizes and most small Tote or Carry bags. If you wish to send Puppy Packs larger than this you must discuss them with us when you book your Puppy transport and there will be a minimum extra charge of $20 per pack
Extra Charges
- Puppy Packs or Baggage up to 20 x 30 x 35cm tall, 4kg in weight FREE
- Puppy Packs or second items up to 30 x 30 x 35cm tall, 6kg in weight $20
- Puppy Packs or second items up to 30 x 40 x 40cm tall, 8kg in weight $40
- Puppy Packs larger than this will not be accepted (see Baggage & Freight)
Additional items will be measured together, eg. 2 x bags will be measured as one pack
All items should zipped or taped shut.
Where a Breeders Puppy Packs are excessive in size we will refuse to accept the packs if prior arrangements, and additional payment where necessary, have not been made as we finalised the bookings.
- Place any items you wish to send with the pet in a sealable bag and zip or tape it up.
- Bags that are not taped or zipped up may spill and result in loss of items.
- Label the bag CLEARLY with the Pets details, unlabelled items are more likely to be misplaced or delivered to the wrong person.
- Sending packs is at your own risk, Dogmovers can not be held liable for any lost items
Specific food for the trip
Food for your animals during the trip is not considered as baggage or as part of a puppy pack however this applies only to food intended to be fed to your pets during the journey.
Please be aware that we will not accept Raw Food for use during the trip i.e Raw chicken, mince, opened containers of Puppy Milk etc.
Food provided should be packaged and labelled as follows:
- One meal serving per ziplock bag (especially for puppies)
- Pack enough servings to last the trip – (eg. 3 feeds per day, for a 2 day trip = 6 servings)
- Clearly label every bag with your pets name/breed and write any instructions (eg. soak water / add medication / etc)
- Place all serving bags in a plastic bag (do not pack it in a puppy pack, we do not open puppy packs) and give directly to the driver with your pet.
- If you do not follow these instructions we can not guarantee your pet will be fed their own food, which may result in an upset tummy in pets that are used to a very specific diet.
Notwithstanding the above, your transport fees include the cost of food for your pet during the journey and it is not a requirement that you send food with your pet. We primarily feed good quality, premium brand, A La Carte All Life Cycle dog biscuits but we do also carry wet food to entice fussier eaters, specific wet puppy food for younger pups and both wet & dry food for cats and kittens. For most animals these foods are appropriate however if your pet is used to a very specific diet you should consider providing food for the trip.
Puppies & kittens should always be fully weaned, used to eating both wet and dry food and both eating and drinking from a bowl for a solid period of time before the transport date. Young animals should not be transported on the date they complete weaning and it should not be the first time they have been separated from their Mother or the litter. It is entirely the Breeders responsibility to ensure that young animals are appropriately prepared for travel and underaged pups & kittens are at a greater risk of harm if they are not independant enough at the time of travel.
Pets Belongings (Baggage)
Many animals have their own personal Baggage such as leads, harnesses, bowls etc and it is reasonable for an owner to expect these to go with their Pet. However, there is a wide variation in what individual owners feel is acceptable, so we offer the following guide and extra charges for additional items.
We do Accept
- ✓ – Essential Paperwork
- ✓ – Essential Medication
- ✓ – Collars, Leads or Harness
- ✓ – Special food, within reason, for feeding during the trip
- ✓ – Blankets, towels, shirts, toys. (items put in cage with pet, but may be discarded if soiled.)
- ✓ – Extra baggage for Pets, within reason (see size limits and additional charges below)
We do not accept
- X – Raw food, i.e. Raw mince, raw chicken
- X – Large / Bulky items such as Beds with solid frames that will not Fit through our cage doors.
- X – Large bags of food, owners personal belongings, Freight.
Please note that what may be acceptable will vary based on the size of your pet. An acceptable bag size will vary between a chihuahua pup and a full grown Great Dane. We charge for, and allow more space for larger dogs so this is not a problem, within reason, provided the items are for the dogs own use.
We do not wish to discourage you from sending your pets usual items with them but because we often receive excessive amounts of baggage or items that are excessively large we have set these maximum size limits and will charge accordingly for oversized packs.
The Max. acceptable size is based on common shopping bag sizes. Coles & Woolies zip up cooler bags are particularly useful.
20 x 30 x 35cm high, 4kg Max
If you wish to send additional Baggage, discuss it with us when you book your Pets transport, there will be a minimum extra charge of $20
Extra Charges
- Pet Baggage up to 20 x 30 x 35cm tall, 4kg in weight FREE
- Pet Baggage or additional items up to 30 x 30 x 35cm tall, 6kg in weight $20
- Pet Baggage or additional items up to 30 x 40 x 40cm tall, 8kg in weight $40
- Pet Baggage or additional items up to 40 x 50 x 45cm tall, 10kg in weight $80
- Generally items larger than this will be charged at a minimum of. $120
Items large enough that they require a seperate Cage such as multiple packs, crates, solid framed Beds, large bags of food etc. will be charged at the rate of an appropriately sized cage. Baggage cannot be placed in the cage with your Pet.
Extra or oversized items will not be accepted when collecting your Pet if appropriate arrangements have not been made.
In most cases items will need to fit through a cage door that may be only 45cm wide.
Additional items shall be measured together, eg. 2 x bags will be measured as one pack
All items must zipped or taped shut.
Where a Pets Baggage is excessive in size we will refuse to accept it unless prior arrangements, and payment where necessary, have not been made as we finalised the bookings.
- Sending Baggage is at your own risk, Dogmovers can not be held liable for any lost items
Crates and Cages
The cages that your pet will travel in throughout the Journey are installed or permanently fitted within our Vans and Floats. In most cases if your Dog or Cat has its own travel crate, this will not be appropriate for an interstate trip and we will not have space for that to travel with your pet. In order for us to accept your own crate we may need to allow another, larger, cage for it to be placed in for the journey and this may cost you as much as your Pets Transport cost. There are exceptions to this and we can discuss your specific needs at the time of booking.
Please consider the following:
- Most pets travel crates are sized for short term transfer and are not large enough to suit your Pets need on longer Interstate travel.
- If we have to remove a cage to fit yours in, this will reduce our capacity beyond your own Pets travel requiring us to charge you extra.
- In many cases your crate will need to fit through a cage door that may be only 45cm wide.
Rejected or undelivered Baggage, Puppy Packs or Extra items
We will attempt to inform our clients throughout the booking confirmation process what size or amount of baggage is acceptable. Unless prior arrangements have been made, including where required the payment of any excess fees, anything greater in size than specified above, or that is otherwise considered unreasonable will be rejected at pick-up by our Drivers.
We cannot take responsibility if you are inconvenienced by our drivers refusal to accept oversized items or any liability for loss in the event that such items are not delivered.
It is not unusual for clients to attempt to persuade drivers to accept excess or oversized items however most interstate trips involve more than one vehicle and driver and the Driver collecting your Pet is not in a position to know what capacity is available throughout all of your pets journey. If the collecting driver does accept your excess items but a subsequent driver refuses to accept such items they will not delivered and we will accept no responsibility for any loss.
Notwithstanding the above where any item that was allowable or has been appropriately arranged to travel with your Pet is undelivered we will do our utmost to recover and deliver or Post the item but can not accept any responsibility for any loss.
Baggage on Premium & Priority Services.
Our Premium and Priority Services are very different from our weekly Express trips. Because we carry significantly fewer animals on these services we are able to accept a wider range of your Pets belongings to travel with your Pet, provided we know about extra items and can fit them onboard there will be no additional charges required. Here are the basic parameters of what will be allowed, please discuss any baggage at the time of confirming your booking.
- Baggage is limited to items specifically for or related to the animals being transported.
- We may not be able to accept large or bulky items and must know in advance about them.
- As a general rule a couple of shopping sized bags per animal plus any items going in the cage with the pet is fine.
- There is no charge for extra items that are notified and accepted.
- Generally Included: Bowls, leads, harnesses, soft bedding, blankets, food, Medicine, toys or any specialty medical or mobility items or devices.
- Subject to approval: Rigid beds, 15kg or greater bags of food, prams, crates or other bulky items which we would need to allow space for. If we are unaware of these or have not approved them there is a risk the driver will refuse them if they feel there will not be appropriate space throughout the whole trip.
- Generally Not Included: Items that are not related to the pet such as other household items, owners personal belongings, large or bulky items that we cannot reasonably fit in the van and still allow unhindered movement and access to the cages and pets and space for the driver who is also living in the Van throughout the trip.
